Mata ki Chowki is an evening devoted to worship of Ma Bhagwati. In Mata ki chowki, devotees worship Devi Mata for a few hours in the evening (generally 7-10) by singing her praises known as Devi Bhet or Bhent or Bhajans. The Bhakts sing prayers with the singer (who acts as a lead in the singing of prayers) along with chorus. The holy event is organised by an individual or a family who bears all the cost of the holy event ( Chowki ), but sometimes a group of people organise a Mata ki Chowki by collecting charities to pay for the holy event. In fact, chowki is a smaller version of Mata Jagran as far as the time of the event is concerned. The people who find it difficult to organize a whole night event due to time restrictions and busy schedule prefer organizing chowki. The concept of chowki is gaining popularity in the urban areas very quickly. At the end, the individual/family give the final offering (antim ardas) to Ma Bhagwati after which the chowki is said to be sampurna (over). Then everyone is given the Prasad in the form of fruits or halwa-chana or dinner. Usually its recommended to have the halwa made in pure ghee but because of the rising cost of it, its dependent on the financial status/wish of the person/family/group organizing the jagran.
